As we have the ability to list over one million items on our website (our selection changes all of the time), it is not feasible for a company our size to record and playback the descriptions on every item on our website. However, if you have a disability we are here to help you. Please call our disability services phone line at (207) 547-3294 or (207) 621-0520 during regular business hours and one of our kind and friendly personal shoppers will help you navigate through our website, help conduct advanced searches, help you choose the item you are looking for with the specifications you are seeking, read you the specifications of any item and consult with you about the products themselves. There is no charge for the help of this personal shopper for anyone with a disability. Finally, your personal shopper will explain our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, and help you place an order if you so desire.

Parts & Service

Steve's Appliance Service & Sales started as a service company and has grown into a complete home furnishings business. Steve prides himself on being a service company first and foremost, offering a full inventory of parts and a full time service staff on site. At Steve's we try to assist with service questions over the phone and offer guidance to effectively do-it-yourself when possible.

Following are a few of our most common service questions:

"My dryer runs, but it isn't drying my clothes"
*Occasionally someone calls with this problem and it is as simple as checking that the dryer is not set on air fluff. The air cycle in a dryer simply tumbles the clothes without heat. If there is some heat in the dryer, but the clothes are taking a long time to dry, usually this indicates a lint problem. Lint causes a couple of problems in the dryer, first the lint filter needs to be cleaned after every dry cycle, this enables good air flow throughout the dryer and allows for good dry times. The second issue with lint is build up in the vent and/or the back of the dryer. Lint can, on rare occasions cause a fire, so vacuuming the back of the dryer and taking the vent off the back of the dryer to clean any clogged lint is always a good idea and a time saver in the dryer. Speaking of vents, dryers vented outside in Maine, sometimes end up covered in snow or leaves (and the rare critter) which prevents good air flow and increases dry time.

"My washer seems to run longer then it has in the past"
*Typically this is an issue related to well water, Maine has a lot of sediment in its water that can clog the screen in the fill valve, which causes the machine to fill very slowly and add time to the cycle. To clean this screen you must first turn the water off to your machine, and unscrew the cold water hose from the back of the appliance (be prepared, a small amount of water may leak out of the hose). The hose was attached to the fill valve and there is a small screen inside the opening of the fill valve, this screen can be removed and cleaned or replaced, but it is important to have the screen in the fill valve. The screen must stop any sand or sediment from getting into the fill valve and preventing it from closing completely when the washer is full, this could cause a flood. Reattach the hose and test for leaks...

"My dishwasher has a white film inside, and on my dishes"
*Detergents have changed recently, and this is a common problem for people. Be aware that using too much detergent in your dishwasher is also a big problem for many people. Detergents have become stronger, much less is needed then in the past. Sometime this will alleviate the problem, if not we offer a product that helps clean the white residue, but white distilled vinegar can also work. In most cases, you can turn an empty dishwasher on for approximately 10 minutes then add 2 cups of white distilled vinegar and let the cycle finish.

Steve's Appliance has the most extensive parts inventory in Central Maine, as well as a complete factory trained, authorized and licensed service staff. Please don't hesitate to call with any parts or service questions, or to schedule a service call...
